TFiOS

*if you haven't read the book this post might contain some spoilers oops*

finished John Green's very famous book - The Fault in Our Stars last night. and oh my, did I cry.
I wept so hard I felt my heart throbbing inside of me.

anyways, it was a lovely book. so beautiful, and so so sad. when I started reading I knew someone was going to die, mainly 'cause I read Looking for Alaska (also by John Green) before this. and boy did I have the shock of my life when I found out *spoiler* the narrator (Pudge) was actually counting down to his friend (Alaska's) death. I teared really badly when I read that book too

well I thought Hazel was the obvious one who was going to die, giving her circumstances and all. she was just fighting for more time, her cancer couldn't be cured. Augustus on the other hand... was healthy and cancer free when they met. I was hopeful, I was ready, knowing that their love will not last until forever. (but how long is forever, anyways?)

I prepared myself when I started reading to stay strong and be ready for her death as it is inevitable, no one lives forever. then she met Augustus Waters, and the way he was with her, it was almost as if I can feel his love for her just by reading the book. it wasn't unrealistic, it wasn't the most romantic love story known to mankind. but it was real.

the book is great because somehow I feel like I was with them, on their journey battling cancer, and watching them fall in love. halfway reading, I was already in love with Augustus Waters. I love how positive he is, and his love for metaphors was charming. I loved even more how at the end of his life *spoiler* he remained the same positivity, not wanting anyone to know how painful it really is. it broke my heart just reading about him during his dying days. (how am I going to survive the movie?? I know I'm gonna cry real hard at the point when he starts losing weight. i just know it!!)

I am in love with this book because of their magnificent love story. How much Gus loved Hazel marvels me, is there still love this great in this world? are we capable of loving someone as much as Augustus Waters loves (present tense) Hazel Grace Lancester??

i doubt it.

and that's why i love this book

x
now for parts of the book i cannot and will not ever get over:

and only now that I loved a grenade did I understand the foolishness of trying to save others from my own impending fragmentation: I couldn't unlove Augustus Waters. And I didn't want to.

"I'm in love with you, and I'm not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I'm in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we're all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we'll ever have, and I am in love with you."

"You know what I believe? I remember in college I was taking this math class, this really great math class taught by this tiny old woman. She was talking about fast Fourier transforms and she stopped midsentence and said, 'Sometimes it seems the universe wants to be noticed.'

"That's what I believe. I believe the universe wants to be noticed. I think the universe is improbably biased toward consciousness, that it rewards intelligence in part because the universe enjoys its elegance being observed. And who am I, living in the middle of history, to tell the universe that it - or my observation of it - is temporary?"

"I can't talk about our love story, so I will talk about math. I am not a mathematician, but I know this: There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There's .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinity collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful.

and last but not least, the letter Gus wrote to Van Houten just before he passed:
*spoiler**spoiler**spoiler**spoiler*

Van Houten,
I'm a good person but a shitty writer. You're a shitty person but a good writer. We'd make a good team. I don't want to ask you any favors, but if you have time - and from what I saw, you have plenty - I was wondering if you could write a eulogy for Hazel. I've got notes and everything, but if you could just make it into a coherent whole or whatever? Or even just tell me what I should say differently.

Here's the thing about Hazel: Almost everyone is obsessed with leaving a mark upon the world. Bequeathing a legacy. Outlasting death. We all want to be remembered. I do, too. That's what bothers me most, is being another unremembered casualty in the ancient and inglorious war against disease.

I want to leave a mark.

But Van Houten: The marks human leave are too often scars. You build a hideous minimall or start a coup or try to become a rock star and you think, "They'll remember me now," but (a) they don't remember you, and (b) all you leave behind are more scars. Your coup becomes a dictatorship. Your minimall becomes a lesion.

(Okay, maybe I'm not such a shitty writer. But I can't pull my ideas together, Van Houten. My thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations.)

We are like a bunch of dogs squirting on fire hydrants. We poison the groundwater with our toxic piss, marking everything MINE in a ridiculous attempt to survive our deaths. I can't stop pissing on fire hydrants. I know it's silly and useless - epically useless in my current state - but I am an animal like any other.

Hazel is different. She walks lightly, old man. She walks lightly upon the earth. Hazel knows the truth: We're as likely to hurt the universe as we are to help it, and we're not likely to do either.
People will say it's sad that she leaves a lesser scar, that fewer remember her, that she was loved deeply but not widely. But it's not sad, Van Houten. It's triumphant. It's heroic. Isn't that the real heroism? Like the doctors say: First, do no harm.

The real heroes anyway aren't the people doing things; the real heroes are the people NOTICING things, paying attention. The guy who invented the smallpox vaccine didn't actually invent anything. He just noticed that people with cowpox didn't get smallpox.

After my PET scan lit up, I snuck into the ICU and saw her while she was unconscious. I just walked in behind a nurse with a badge and I got to sit next to her for like ten minutes before I got caught. I really thought she was going to die before I could tell her that I was going to die, too. It was brutal: the incessant mechanized haranguing of intensive care. She had this dark cancer water dripping out of her chest. Eyes closed. Intubated. But her hand was still her hand, still warm and the nails painted this almost black dark blue and I just held her hand and tried to imagine the world without us and for about one second I was a good enough person to hope she died so she would never know that I was going, too. But then I wanted more time so we could fall in love. I got my wish, I suppose. I left my scar.

A nurse guy came in and told me I had to leave, that visitors weren't allowed, and I asked if she was doing okay, and the guy said, "She's still taking on water." A desert blessing, an ocean curse.

What else? She is so beautiful. You don't get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is. She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten. You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers.

what do we crave most in life?

wanna know what someone lacks? see what they want in life.

someone who has all things material, craves attention. whereas those who has all the attention in the world, rely on material stuff to feel complete. we're all different, each of us. we have different reasons to get up in the morning. we find joy in different things, be it family, friends or whatever it is that drives us.

i used to be happy. if you ask me what i crave the most in life, my answer back when i was still in high school would most probably be "freedom". the reason is simple - because back then my parents were so strict, i was the one missing out on all the activities my friends had. which made me really really sad. but guess what, i was still happy.

if you asked me the same question when I was in university, my answer would probably be "money". watching my friends travelling to places around the world took its toll on me. I can never be truly happy for them 'cause deep down I felt miserable. I wanted to join them so badly. i wanted to be inside the pictures too. i wanted to take a breather and enjoy new sights and experience too! none of that ever happened, because it just was never meant to be, me and money, we were never fated.

so now, if you ask me that same question, i would probably take a while to come up with an answer. yes, i do still want freedom, but not as much as i'm not as restricted as i was before. I can go out late now, and am present for almost all of the gatherings. i do still want money, but dare not dream too much about it because i'm still no where near finding a job. I guess what i want most now, is recognition. i want people to believe in me, i want my family to trust that i can get things done. more importantly, i want to believe that i can get things done. but look at me, doubting myself time after time. i don't know who i am and what i can offer. all i see is a pile of emotional mess, who can't even look at herself straight in the eye and tell herself she is happy with what she's become. i am not happy, that is certain. i am not happy with how my life turned out. i am not happy that i am still unemployed. i am not happy that i can't believe in myself enough to take up the responsibilities that come with adulthood. i am not happy because i turned out to be so mediocre, not exceptionally good in anything, just floating in the middle. i am so angry with myself, at how scared i am at every little thing that makes me feel insecure. when was the last time i stepped out of my comfort zone? when was the last time i did something that made my family proud, and myself, proud? all i see are absurd expectations and commitment, and i am angry at myself because deep down, really deep down, i know that i am running away. that shitty part of me that is in denial that i am officially an adult is tearing my insides apart, and i don't know how much longer i can hold on..

labyrinth

“It's not life or death, the labyrinth. Suffering. Doing wrong and having wrong things happen to you. That's the problem. Bolivar was talking about the pain, not about the living or dying. How do you get out of the labyrinth of suffering?”

happy buys :>

so the new mall in Miri city - Permaisuri Imperial City Mall just opened up recently.
it's our city's very own mini branded mall.

well there's not much brands to choose from to be frank, but there's this little Guess shop and I fell in love with a wallet during my first visit!! <3 <3 <3

so after pondering on it for quite a while, (the sales assistants had to endure me touching every single one of their wallets in store kidding), I finally decided that yes, it is my destiny to get that wallet!!

so on the day I was supposed to get the wallet, we had lunch at Board Riders Cafe beforehand.
if you didn't know, BRC is located inside Quicksilver! I think it's kinda cool how there's another door for food inside a clothes shop haha.

the theme is similar to Starbucks, price is around the range too.
all of us ordered sandwiches

I guess the food there is so so, but service and environment is good. :)

so after lunch, I excitedly walked over to Guess to get my wallet!! I was so excited I was literally walking on air! hopping and giggling like a little girl whose dad just agreed to get her a unicorn! haha

but alas, when we reached the entrance, I SAW A LADY FONDLING MY WALLET!!! triple emphasis on the MY!!! I was devastated and just stood at the entrance staring, not sure whether to laugh or cry.
I told my friends not to go in! haha i mean, how was I supposed to react? pretend to walk around the store looking at other things then grab the wallet once she lets go??

but they insisted on walking in so I had to follow.
THANK GOODNESS THE LADY LET GO OF THE WALLET. HAHAHAHAHA

so in the end it went home with me! ;)

and guess what, the first time I saw it, it was only 15% off. then when I got it, it was 30% off! hahaha

lesson learnt:
always wait a few days before buying something. xD

just look at that beauty!!

my friend got me this hello kitty file from Taiwan!! heheh happy happy :3

another recent purchase was my Ombre Spike Jelly Shoes which I got from Carousell. Carousell is an app where people get to sell their preloved/brand new stuff! haha so I was delighted when I saw the pair on the site (it was in my size!) 'cause I saw someone wearing it to a wedding and knew deep down that I just had to have a pair. ;)

kept receiving praises on my shoes from my relatives! haha major loves
my aunt even asked me to find her a similar pair! haha still fretting on how I can find something similar cause I really never see this shoe design online before! :O

so IF you happen to read this post and know where I can purchase one, do let me know!! :D

signing off with this blurry picture of me and Hope!! my adorably chubby grumpy kitty!! <3

salmon heaven

last Wednesday, Doreen, Joan and I headed up to Brunei for a little road trip sushi therapy.
it was awesome!! the sushi was awesome. haha!

looking at these pictures makes my mouth water so freakin bad :(

so the main reason for this post is to not let these good pictures go to waste :9
so here goes ----- glimpse of heaven! haha

xx
you better stop reading if
a) it's late in the night
and
b) your stomach's making weird noises which may or may not be growling noises
xx

only when we look back on pictures then we realize that almost all of our dishes contains salmon.
I can't express my love for salmon. it's simply indescribable

salmon sashimi
if you do not love salmon, i have nothing to say to you.

oh gosh, when this came my mouth literally watered.
plus we were sitting at the table beside the sushi train, so service was superbly fast. (or maybe it's cause there wasn't much people there bahaha)
but it felt so good having your sushi handed over directly by the chef (?) instead of through waitresses. plus our orders arrived so quick!

salmon unagi rolls

when words fail, picture speaks. and this picture is representation of my love for salmon. hahahaha

-okay so this is the part where i forget the names of the food-

salmon with cheese, gigantic in size too.
now that's what i'm talking bout!

smoked salmon cheese balls.
this was so-so for me, I didn't really like the smoked salmon. should've ordered the raw version of this. :D

yummmyyy!

this sushi tasted weird.
I guess I didn't like the combination of sesame with (what looks like) everything on my sushi. :|

heaven!!
I LOVE tofu skin sushis!!! hahaha. this one has salmon inside.
salmon + mayo + sweet tofu + rice
what more can an Asian girl ask for?

this was last to arrive, which means we were already bloated when it made its entrance.
I somehow managed to finish mine! hahaha. the filling in the middle is really nice. crunchy!
:3

so as per tradition, after drowning ourselves in sushi, we shop in Supa Save

this is Doreen, tying her shoe laces when we reached. I laughed and walked over and she didn't even lift her head and said
 "fine fine. I do."

HAHA geeezzz

cute chocolates!

Cheetos! hahaha

took this picture to show it to my dad so he can help me buy some next time. but guess who's too lazy to show it to him. HAHAHA -_-

okayy that's the end of the post.
hope you enjoyed torturing yourself looking at those salmon pictures.
 hehehe

;)

P/s
Excapade better pay up if they want to use my gorgeous salmon pic in their menu. *snorts

Excapade, if you see this, I don't mind free sushi trips.

every now and then the stars align

...and you can either be over the top happy.. or depressingly sad

so how am i feeling now.. i feel unappreciated. honestly, i don't think i am wrong at all! i did nothing wrong, why did you have to lash your anger out on me? i did everything you wanted me to, ever since i was a little girl. study hard, learn the piano, take up engineering. what did i do that isn't your will? what you wanted?

every expectation you want i give, and yet it is not enough. at first you were proud of me, but eventually, you grew weary of my 'good', and soon my 'good' is not good enough. don't ever think i'm not aware, you just want me to be your idea of perfect. but i'm sorry i'm not, i'll probably never measure up to what you want me to be, but am i not good enough? trying my best to please you all these years, and now because of one small fault, i'm asked to pack my bags and leave?

maybe, maybe one day i will. i'll leave and we'll see whether anyone self can satisfy your level of good, 'cause i sure as hell am not, and never will be good enough.
